The upkeep is not that high and it's a useful base for any kind of playthrough. They are not that needed if you are just starting.

It takes 8 C4s to completely raid the base. It's very easy to make, doesn't cost much, but it provides great security in the late-game stage. It's broken because it provides an unfair advantage to the player in the game. The name may fool you, but this base is really good and useful.
